Cleveland, Ohio – Al Popp, affectionately known by his neighbors as “Transmission Al,” passed away after a period of hospitalization following an unexpected health event.
Al, who worked tirelessly as a tow truck operator and mechanic for over 40 years in Cleveland, became a fixture in his community, known for his dedication, generosity, and strong work ethic.
In recent days, Al began feeling unwell and was taken to the hospital, where he was found unresponsive.
Despite efforts by medical professionals, including 20 minutes of CPR, Al was placed on a ventilator but later showed minimal brain activity.
His wife, Kathy Popp, along with their daughter Jennifer, made the difficult decision to remove him from life support in accordance with Al’s wishes.
Remembered as a hardworking individual who rarely took a day off, Al was committed to serving his local area through K&M Towing and Atlas Transmission.
He also shared a love for pool and gun collecting, passions that brought him close to many in his neighborhood.
Messages of support have poured in on social media.
One friend, Rick Freeman, commented, “Al had happy hour in heaven today.
His spirit is still with us.” Another, Ian Spurlock, shared, “R.I.H. Al, you were a great guy and a great friend.”
A fundraiser organized by Laura Aquila seeks support for Al’s funeral and memorial expenses, as he had no life insurance.
Al’s legacy in his community will live on as friends and family remember his kind-hearted spirit and unwavering dedication.
