Hammond, Indiana – Alejandro Moreno, a 45-year-old resident of Hammond, was tragically shot and killed on the night of Thursday, October 3, 2024, outside Nick’s Liquors on Calumet Avenue.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the fatality has been classified as a homicide.
The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m., following a confrontation inside the liquor store that escalated into gunfire outside.
Moreno sustained gunshot wounds to both his hand and chest during the altercation.
He was rushed to St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
An autopsy was conducted the following day to confirm the cause of death.
In addition to Moreno, a bystander who was not directly involved in the conflict was also shot, suffering injuries to the shoulder and chin.
This individual was later reported to be in stable condition.
The Hammond Police Department is currently investigating the incident and urging any witnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward.
