Yorkshire, England – The equestrian community is mourning the loss of Allister Hood, a legendary figure in the world of horse riding, who passed away on the night of October 14, 2024, at the age of 69.
Hood, whose lifelong passion for horses began during his childhood on a Yorkshire farm, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones.
A celebrated horseman, Hood’s career was filled with extraordinary achievements, including winning eight Supreme titles at the Royal International Horse Show (RIHS) and competing over 60 times at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show (HOYS).
His first HOYS victory came at the age of 17 in 1972, riding Field Master, a lightweight owned by Paul Rackham.
Hood’s contributions to the equestrian world were recognized in 2021 when he received the Horse & Hound Lifetime Achievement Award.
Throughout his career, he was admired not only for his competitive success but also for his dedication to his craft and his mentorship within the horse community.
Many in the equestrian world shared their condolences and tributes.
Claire Webb wrote, "What a wonderful gentleman, horseman, and judge. We loved having him to judge in South Africa."
Maria Black added, "RIP Allister, a wonderful tribute to a legend in the horse world. He will be sadly missed."
Hood is survived by his wife, Anne, their children Louenna, Ollie, Harry, Ben, and granddaughter Alice.
His legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew him, and his contributions to the horse world will never be forgotten.
