Detective Anthony Stewart, Beloved NYPD Highway Unit 2 Officer and Jazz Band Leader, Passes Away, Leaving a Legacy of Dedication and Music

New York, NY – Detective Anthony "Tony" Stewart, a highly respected member of the New York Police Department’s Highway Unit 2 and a passionate musician, passed away on October 26, 2024.

Known for his integrity, compassion, and commitment to service, Detective Stewart leaves a profound impact on colleagues, friends, and the broader community.

Detective Stewart served as a 9/11 responder and was a leader within the NYPD Highway Unit 2, embodying dedication and professionalism throughout his career.

Aside from his law enforcement duties, he was also an accomplished musician, leading the NYPD Jazz Band and bringing joy through music to those around him.

His passing has evoked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and friends, remembering him as a "true leader" who brought warmth and positivity to the lives he touched.

Saoirse Tower, a friend and colleague, shared her condolences on Facebook, saying, "Be at peace, Tony! Surely a new star shines down on us to brighten up the night skies."

Other tributes poured in from friends and members of the law enforcement community, with Heidi Higgins-Sermabekian writing, "Rest in eternal peace, our brother."

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) extended its sympathies to Detective Stewart’s family, recognizing his remarkable service and commitment to public safety.
