Maureen Cairns, née James, of Windy Nook, Gateshead, passed away on September 16, 2024, at the age of 75. Surrounded by her heartbroken family, Maureen was a beloved mother, nana, and great-nana who touched the lives of many with her warmth and kindness.
Maureen was the cherished mother of Ken, Joanne, the late Sean, and Lee, and a special mother-in-law. She was a devoted nana to Aarron, Ellie, Danielle, Robert, Ashley, Kayleigh, Kenneth, and Danny, and a dearly loved great-nana. Her family described her as "adored by all" and shared their grief over the loss of a "much-loved mam" who will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Maureen’s life will take place on Monday, September 30, at Saltwell Crematorium at 11:15 am. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Butterwick Hospice Care, with a donation box available at the crematorium on the day of the service.
Following the service, family and friends are invited to Sutherlands in Windy Nook to share memories and raise a glass in Maureen’s honor.
Expressions of sympathy poured in on social media. “Thinking of you all, Lee,” wrote Sue Paul Williamson, while Nicola McPherson expressed her condolences, saying, “I’m so sorry for your loss.”
Maureen Cairns will be remembered as a loving and cherished figure whose legacy of love and family will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
