Nora Fontaine, affectionately known as “Nan,” passed away peacefully at the Riverview Personal Care Home on September 21, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on December 19, 1932, in Sagkeeng Anishinaabe First Nation, she was surrounded by a loving family that she cherished throughout her life.
Nora is remembered for her unwavering spirit and love for her family, having survived numerous hardships. She was the youngest of eighteen children and the mother of five, grandmother to fifteen, great-grandmother to twenty-two, and a great-great-grandmother to three. Her passing has evoked heartfelt tributes from family and friends, including Dorothy Fontaine, who expressed gratitude for the love and unity Nan brought into their lives: “So grateful to Nan and the beautiful family that she and Henry brought into this world. Much love. Rest in peace, Nan.”
Her funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Friends Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Nora Fontaine will be dearly missed, remembered as a remarkable woman whose heart knew no bounds.
