Decherd, Tennessee – Betty Jean Coker, a beloved resident of Decherd, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the age of 83.
She was surrounded by her loving family during her final moments.
Born in Decherd on July 2, 1941, Betty Jean was a native of Franklin County and the daughter of Dock and Elizabeth Conn, who preceded her in death.
She was also predeceased by her husband, Clint Ray Coker; her brother, Bobby Ray Conn; and her grandson, Isiah Crockett.
A former employee of BI-LO, Betty Jean spent her retirement participating in events at the Senior Citizens Center, where she enjoyed activities such as playing Rook and being a part of the Red Hats group.
She was known for her skills in cooking and sewing, passions that endeared her to many.
Betty Jean is survived by her four children, Nancy Meyer, Norma Piatt, Clint Ray Coker II, and Natalie Vargas, as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Betty Jean Coker will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
Her funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 2:00 pm, followed by her burial at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
Friends, family, and community members shared heartfelt condolences on social media, with Courtney Rackley expressing, “I’m so sorry nat,” and Deborah Daniel remembering, “Betty was a wonderful lady. We worked together for several years and she always made you smile.”
