Charles Duru, Promising University of North Georgia Student and US Army National Guard Officer, Dies in a Motorcycle Accident

Lumpkin County, Georgia – Charles Duru, a second lieutenant in the US Army National Guard and a dedicated student at the University of North Georgia (UNG), tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident on the night of October 8, 2024.

His untimely death has left his family, friends, and the UNG community devastated.

Charles, affectionately known as Chigozie to those close to him, was a 4th-year student with a bright future ahead.

He was pursuing a promising career while balancing his military duties, academics, and personal passions, including his love for motorcycling.

Tragically, his passion led to the fatal accident in Lumpkin County when he collided with a car.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, Charles succumbed to his injuries.

Family members expressed their heartbreak on social media, with Adaeze Orji writing, "Please pray for my family as we deal with the tragic passing of our beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, protector, comedian and more."

Another friend, Yanna Skoodaloo, commented, "My heart is so broken! Praying for the whole entire family."

Charles Duru’s death is a profound loss to the community, and the University of North Georgia has extended its condolences and support to the Duru family during this difficult time.
