Lisnaskea, Northern Ireland – Daniel Lavelle, a 40-year-old father of five and dedicated football coach, tragically lost his life in a road traffic accident on Wednesday evening, September 25, 2024.
The accident occurred on Crom Road in Lisnaskea, involving a lorry and a car.
Emergency services arrived at the scene, but Lavelle, who was driving the car, was pronounced dead.
The driver of the lorry, a 48-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by unsafe driving and remains in custody.
Lavelle, who was a cherished coach at Lisbellaw United FC, had recently taken up a new coaching role, guiding the U11 Belles team.
He was known for his boundless enthusiasm and commitment, qualities that earned him admiration from players, parents, and fellow coaches alike.
His sudden passing has left the local community in shock.
In a statement, Lisbellaw United FC expressed their profound grief, saying, “We at the Club are heartbroken to lose such a devoted, kind-hearted, and genuine person.”
Daniel is survived by his wife, Eilish, and their five children, Jacob, Michaela, Laoise, Cliodhna, and Domhnall Og.
The football club has canceled all training and matches until next week as a mark of respect, with a minute’s silence planned at senior games this weekend in his memory.
Friends, family, and community members have taken to social media to express their condolences.
Sharon McCleery Real shared, “Daniel was one of the nicest fellas you could meet.”
