Milwaukee, Wisconsin – The Milwaukee community is mourning the loss of Derrick Lamont Nelson, Sr., a beloved youth coach and president of the P.O.P. Warner Football League, who passed away at the age of 50.
Nelson, born on November 10, 1973, dedicated much of his life to mentoring and coaching the city’s youth.
His passion for football and leadership impacted many young athletes in Milwaukee.
He was a graduate of Milwaukee Technical High School and Carroll University, where he began his journey of influencing lives through education and sports.
Nelson’s death has left a void in the community he served so diligently.
Beyond his work on the football field, Nelson shared valuable insights through the Mindful Monday MKE podcast, where he inspired others with his optimism and wisdom.
On social media, friends and colleagues expressed their grief and admiration for Nelson.
