Boyerstown, Navan – The community of Boyerstown and Navan is in mourning today following the death of Des (Dessie) Smyth, a beloved resident who passed away in the early hours of September 26, 2024.
Dessie, known for his warm smile and active role in the community, was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
His death marks a significant loss for those who knew and loved him.
Dessie was a well-known figure in Boyerstown, not only for his personal connections but also for his musical talent.
A top-class trumpet player, he was a member of the Arcadians Showband in 1956, as shared by his friend Paddy McDermott, who remembered him fondly on social media.
Dessie’s love for music and his family were defining aspects of his life, with one of the most memorable moments being the celebration of his Diamond Wedding anniversary with his devoted wife, Ollie, in 2020.
The occasion was marked by a drive-by celebration, a testament to the love and admiration the community held for him.
