Doyle Parker, Beloved Texas Tech Football Coach, Passes Away at 80

Lubbock, Texas – The Texas Tech football community is mourning the loss of Doyle Parker, a respected coach whose career spanned over four decades. He passed away on October 11, 2024, at the age of 80.

Parker’s coaching journey began in the 1960s, where he laid the groundwork for his illustrious career. He worked closely with legendary coach Spike Dykes, beginning at Belton High School and continuing through stints at Big Spring High School and Texas Tech University.

At Texas Tech, Parker served as an assistant coach during two tenures, from 1987 to 1991 and from 1993 to 1998. His work with linebackers, tight ends, and defensive ends was instrumental in shaping the team’s defense and solidifying his legacy as a mentor and leader on the field.

Known for his deep connection with players, Parker’s impact went beyond the football field. His dedication to their personal and professional development left a lasting mark on countless athletes and colleagues.
