Dr. Jeff Shafer of O’Fallon, Illinois, Passes Away – Beloved ER Doctor and EMS Mentor Remembered by Community

O’Fallon, Illinois – Dr. Jeff Shafer, a respected ER doctor at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and the medical director for O’Fallon-Shiloh EMS, has tragically passed away. His loss has deeply affected the community, as he was a cherished figure among his colleagues and friends in public safety.

Dr. Shafer, originally from Metropolis, Illinois, graduated from Massac County High School in 1996 and went on to study at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He began his medical career as a paramedic with O’Fallon-Shiloh EMS while attending medical school. His dedication to serving the community brought him back to O’Fallon later in life, where he served as the medical director for the EMS.

He was more than just a healthcare provider; he was a mentor and a role model for countless EMS providers and first responders. His passion for education and dedication to mentoring others made him a guiding light for many in the field. His door was always open, ready to offer guidance and support to those who needed it.

O’Fallon Fire Rescue announced his passing, stating, “We are sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Jeff Shafer. He will be missed by so many. Jeff was a firefighter with O’Fallon Fire for a few years and with O’Fallon EMS and an ER doctor at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. He had a lot of friends in Public Safety, and his passing will be hard for his family, friends, and anyone who knew him. Rest In Peace.”
