Dhaka, Bangladesh – Dr. Pui-Ying Iroh Tam, a dedicated physician and loving mother, tragically passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, following complications from a hemorrhagic stroke suffered on September 17th.

Her passing has deeply affected the medical community and her loved ones, who are mourning the loss of a remarkable individual committed to the well-being of others.

Dr. Tam had recently relocated to Dhaka to take on the role of Senior Director of Infectious Diseases at icddr,b, a leading health research institution in Bangladesh.

Sarah Atunah-Jay, a close friend and fellow pediatrician, expressed her grief, saying, “My heart is so heavy. My good friend Pui-Ying Iroh Tam passed away earlier this week. Pui-Ying was a loving mother, dedicated physician, and great friend.”

Dr. Tam is survived by her two daughters, Uzoma and Akunna, her two sisters, two nieces, two nephews, one brother-in-law, and both of her parents.
