Roseburg, Oregon – Duane Huff, a beloved member of the Roseburg community known for his adventurous spirit and dedication to motorcycle riding, tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident on Friday, October 28, 2024.
The 88-year-old was involved in a fatal crash on Elkhead Road in the Oakland area, according to a report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities received a call shortly after 3:40 p.m. from a passerby who discovered Huff’s crashed motorcycle along the 12000 block of Elkhead Road.
Upon arrival, the caller realized that Huff had succumbed to his injuries before help could be administered.
Initial investigations reveal that Huff was traveling southbound on Elkhead Road when he encountered a sharp curve, leading him to lose control of his motorcycle.
The vehicle reportedly skidded off the main road and onto gravel, eventually plummeting down a steep embankment.
The Sheriff’s Office has noted that challenging road conditions may have contributed to the accident, though there was no indication of another vehicle being involved.
Reflecting on Huff’s loss, friends and neighbors expressed their condolences on social media.
Raymond Walter commented, “RIP! Our neighbor Duane Huff! Very, very sad to not be able to see him walking his little dog anymore.”
Amal Petrov added, “That is so sad… I was surprised that he was 88 and still riding motorcycles. Sorry for your loss.”
