Durham, Ontario – Emily Wood, a courageous young woman, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, after a brave fight against juvenile brain cancer.
She was surrounded by her family and loved ones at the time of her passing at Chapman’s House.
Emily, aged 17, had been a resilient fighter throughout her illness, even enduring complications from a shunt infection that had hospitalized her from August 18 to September 19.
Her family shared that despite their efforts, Emily was no longer eligible for the Sick Kids trial after the cancer had spread.
Her passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew her, and her bright spirit and infectious laughter will be forever remembered.
To honor her memory, the “Wood Family Benefit” has been changed to the “Emily Wood Tribute Day,” where friends, family, and the community will gather to celebrate her life by doing the things she loved most.
The event will be held on Saturday, October 19, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Family friend Christina Wood remarked, “This is going to be an amazing tribute to our amazing baby.”
Condolences poured in from the community, with Kathy Lorenz expressing, “My condolences to the Wood family during this difficult time,” and the Davie family from Harriston offering their prayers, saying, “Our hearts are with you all.”
Emily Wood’s life, though tragically cut short, will continue to inspire those who knew her courage and spirit.
