Floyd L. Tyas, Beloved Farmer and Community Volunteer, Passes Away at 77 in Van Wert, Ohio

Van Wert, Ohio – Floyd L. Tyas, a well-respected farmer and devoted community member, passed away on the afternoon of Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the age of 77.

Born on November 23, 1946, to Roy S. and Arlene M. Tyas, Floyd was known for his deep-rooted dedication to his family, church, and local organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leroy, and grandparents George & Carrie Tyas and John & Gertrude Rhoad.

Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carolyn, and his two children, Jennifer Daugherty and Jason Tyas, along with numerous grandchildren.

Floyd lived a life marked by service, not only as a lifelong farmer but also as a trustee of Union Township and an active member of the Scott Lions Club.

He volunteered as a firefighter and served as an usher and property chair at the former Trinity Lutheran Church.

Floyd enjoyed snowmobiling and took great pride in giving children rides on his cherished tractors.

His memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Van Wert on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 4 p.m., with calling hours from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with cremation arrangements.

David Daugherty, Floyd’s son-in-law, shared his grief on social media, expressing, "He was nothing short of a great, Godly man. Will be sorely missed."

Other condolences poured in, including words from Melissa Thieme Bontreger: “So sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.”

Floyd’s legacy of kindness and dedication will be remembered by all who knew him.
