Minnetonka, Minnesota – Garrett Mathew Dawson, aged 58, tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident on Saturday night, October 5, 2024.
The incident occurred on westbound Highway 12 at Carlson Parkway around 7:45 p.m., when Dawson’s Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a concrete median.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, both Dawson and a female passenger were thrown from the bike upon impact.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced Dawson dead.
The female passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were reported as non-life-threatening.
Authorities confirmed that neither Dawson nor the passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, raising questions about the safety precautions followed during the ride.
Investigators also suspect that alcohol may have been a contributing factor, though this has yet to be confirmed pending further research.
The section of Highway 12 remained closed for several hours as state patrol officers conducted a thorough investigation.
Law enforcement emphasized the importance of helmet use and safety gear in reducing the risk of severe injury or death in such accidents.
The community mourns the loss of Garrett Mathew Dawson, and prayers have been extended for the passenger’s recovery.
