New York, NY – The Broadway community mourns the loss of Gavin Creel, an acclaimed actor, singer, and songwriter, who passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 48.
Creel had been battling metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, since July 2024.
Known for his standout performances in Broadway hits like "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Hair," "She Loves Me," and "Hello, Dolly!," Creel captured the hearts of theatergoers with his charismatic stage presence and soulful tenor voice.
Beyond his artistic achievements, Creel was also a vocal advocate for social justice and LGBTQ+ rights.
He co-founded Broadway Impact, an organization that played a pivotal role in advocating for marriage equality.
The news of Creel’s passing has deeply saddened fans, colleagues, and the broader theater community.
A private gathering is planned for his family, with a public celebration of his life to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Creel’s family encourages donations to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, a cause close to his heart.
His legacy as both an artist and an activist will continue to inspire many for years to come.
