Martin County, Texas – Gavin Stone Popowitz, a 27-year-old resident of Houston, tragically passed away following a severe car accident on Thursday, October 15, 2024.
According to reports, the accident occurred in the early hours on County Road 3200, about four miles west of FM 1212.
Popowitz was driving a 2011 Buick Encore at high speed when he lost control of the vehicle.
The car veered off the road, rolled over, and ultimately collided with an oil storage tank, causing a fire that engulfed the vehicle.
First responders arrived at the scene later in the afternoon, but it was too late to save Gavin.
Authorities believe the accident happened around 1 a.m., though the wreckage was not discovered until several hours later.
Gavin’s sudden and tragic passing has left his family and friends devastated.
The Midland Reporter-Telegram shared the news, stating, "Gavin Stone Popowitz, 27, died after his car veered off the road, hit an oil tank, and caught fire in Martin County."
Ariel Parks, a friend of Gavin, expressed her grief on social media, saying, "RIP my sweet friend! I’ll never forget how you looked out for me, Gavin Stone."
As the investigation continues, the community extends its heartfelt condolences to Gavin’s family, who are now grieving an unimaginable loss.
