Graham Isherwood, Long-serving Featherstone Councillor and Community Advocate, Passes Away at Age 71

Featherstone, West Yorkshire – Graham Isherwood, a respected councillor and prominent figure in Featherstone’s community, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the age of 71.

The news of his death has left the local community in mourning as they remember a man who dedicated more than 35 years of his life to public service.

Elected to the Featherstone Town Council in 1987, Isherwood quickly became a pillar of local government, working tirelessly to improve the town and advocate for the rights of its citizens.

He served as Mayor of Featherstone during the millennium year and was instrumental in many significant projects, including the War Horse installation and the renovation of the miners’ graves following the Featherstone Massacre.

Councillor Melanie Jones, reflecting on Isherwood’s legacy, said, “A lovely man and a great ambassador for Featherstone.

He will be missed.”

Others, like Sally Bigwood, echoed this sentiment, noting, “Excellent councillor and fine human being.

Whenever Graham was involved, I knew the project would work out.”

Isherwood’s dedication extended beyond politics, as he was also a passionate supporter of the Featherstone Rovers rugby league team.

His sense of humor and warmth touched the lives of many, with friends describing him as “larger than life” and “indestructible.”

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, their children James and Matthew, and his grandchildren.

The Mayor of Featherstone, Councillor Dwain Longley, praised Isherwood’s years of service, stating, “Graham leaves behind an impressive legacy.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.”
