East Dennis, MA – Harry C. Allen, a beloved and influential figure in the Brockton, MA community, peacefully passed away on October 11, 2024, at the age of 93 at Regal Health Care Center in Harwich, MA.
Known for his pivotal roles as a track coach and headmaster at Brockton High School, Harry left a profound legacy in both sports and education.
Harry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952, and later became a celebrated cross-country and track coach at Brockton High, leading his teams to multiple championships.
His achievements included numerous state and New England titles, as well as a long undefeated streak in the late 1960s.
After his coaching career, Harry took on the role of headmaster at Brockton High School, where he developed community education programs and earned respect across the region.
In recognition of his contributions, he was inducted into the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Hall of Fame and the Brockton Sports Athletic Hall of Fame, alongside his father and daughter in a historic family moment.
Harry is survived by his wife of 72 years, Janet M. Allen, and his children Brian, Barry, and Kerry.
A funeral service will be held on October 24, 2024, followed by interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
Dale Stevens, a former student, remembered Harry fondly, saying, “Your Dad was a great guy. The city of Brockton was lucky to have him.”
