Dallas, Texas – Hilde Schwartz, a remarkable woman and recruiter for the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on October 15, 2024.
Her passing marks the end of an extraordinary life filled with adventure, dedication, and service.
Born in Germany and raised in Chicago, Hilde moved to Dallas in 1951 with her husband, Bill Schwartz, and embraced a life of resilience and strength in a new and challenging environment.
She spent much of her career as a recruiter for the Women of the Air Force (WAF) and WAC, empowering women and contributing significantly to the military.
In addition to her professional life, Hilde was a devoted member of the Temple Emanu-El community, where she volunteered and participated actively in the Sisterhood.
Her commitment to service and her deep sense of faith were evident in all aspects of her life.
A memorial service for Hilde will be held at Temple Emanu-El in the Stern Chapel at 2:30 pm on October 16, 2024.
Her son, Lawrence Schwartz, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, writing, “For 96 years, Hilde’s life was an extraordinary adventure, and I know her spirit will continue to live on in all of us who loved her.”
Family and friends, including Cole Schwartz and Asher Gottesfeld Knight, have expressed their deepest condolences, remembering her as an inspiring woman with a unique style and unforgettable spirit.
