Edgewater, Maryland – James Strachan Houston, 58, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Nancianne Houston, following a violent altercation that took place at his residence on August 9, 2024.
The tragic incident occurred at the Pier 7 Resort Marina, where Nancianne, 47, had visited James to resolve overdue tax matters amid their ongoing divorce.
According to charging documents, James contacted 911, reporting that the couple had engaged in a knife fight.
When police arrived, they found James lying wounded in a pool of blood beside Nancianne, who was unresponsive with a knife still embedded in her chest.
Authorities declared Nancianne dead at the scene.
The couple’s divorce had been fraught with tension, including a protective order filed by Nancianne in March 2023 and an upcoming court appearance scheduled for January 2025 to finalize their separation.
Reports suggest that the conflict escalated further when Nancianne informed James of her new relationship.
James, a medical professional specializing in anesthesiology, now faces first- and second-degree murder charges.
Nancianne’s family has been granted temporary custody of the couple’s child, while James remains in custody without bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for October 23, 2024.
