Jim Ramage, Founding Member of the Kununurra Polocrosse Club, Passes Away at 85 in Queensland

Queensland – Jim Ramage, a prominent figure in the Australian horse sports community and a founding member of the Kununurra Polocrosse Club, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the age of 85, following a brief illness.

Jim was highly regarded for his contributions to polocrosse and campdrafting, particularly in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and more recently, Queensland.

Jim’s passion for horses and his dedication to the development of equestrian sports, including his involvement in the Kununurra Agricultural Society, the Kununurra Rodeo and Campdraft Association, and his work for the East Kimberley Agricultural Department, left a lasting impact on many.

In his later years, he became part of the Bauhinia and Calliope Polocrosse Clubs in Queensland, continuing his involvement in the sport he loved.

Tributes have poured in on social media, with many remembering Jim as a gentleman and a knowledgeable horseman.

Kate Walker shared, “Thank you for writing the tribute, he taught us so much over the years,” while Lincoln Heading remarked, “Condolences to Jim’s family.

Jim played such an important and constructive role in polocrosse and the cattle industry.”

A private ceremony will be held to celebrate Jim’s life, with family and close friends in attendance.

His legacy in horse sports will be remembered by many across Australia.
