Joann Burens, a cherished mother and dedicated special needs educator, passed away on August 8, 2024, at the age of 81.
Born on October 1, 1942, Joann was known for her infectious smile, sharp wit, and playful sense of humor, leaving a lasting impact on both her family and the students she taught.
In addition to her passion for teaching, Joann enjoyed playing cribbage, sipping on her favorite White Russian, and admiring the works of photographer Ansel Adams, especially his images of Yosemite.
Her daughter, Shelley Haynes, shared the news of her passing on social media, expressing deep love and gratitude: “Happy Birthday Mom, as you celebrate in heaven.” Shelley also highlighted Joann’s influence on the lives of many students throughout her career, as well as the joy she brought to her loved ones.
Friends and family extended their condolences, with Morgan Fay Bazinet commenting, “I’m so sorry for your loss, Shelley – she sounded like a lovely woman and mom.”
Joann is fondly remembered for her kindness, wisdom, and the many memorable sayings she shared with those close to her.
