Burlington, Kansas – Korkie Pyles, a cherished artist, gardener, and deeply compassionate soul, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, at the age of 66.
Known for her love of art, poetry, and vibrant gardens, Korkie touched the lives of everyone around her, leaving a legacy filled with creativity and kindness.
Born as Carlyn Renee Sessions on November 9, 1957, in California, Korkie moved frequently in her youth but spent significant years in Burlington, Kansas, her mother’s hometown.
In 1983, she married her husband, Tom Pyles, with whom she shared over 40 loving years, creating beautiful homes and gardens across various states, including California, Minnesota, Colorado, and Kansas.
An avid gardener, Korkie grew and tended to her favorite flowers, like irises, peonies, and roses, in every place she called home.
Korkie was also a skilled artist, creating jewelry, fimo clay figures, and acrylic paintings that reflected her deep appreciation for nature.
Preston Pyles, who organized a GoFundMe fundraiser to support funeral expenses, shared that Korkie’s family deeply appreciates any support offered during this time of loss.
Messages of condolence have flooded social media, with friends and family expressing their sorrow and admiration for her life.

Korkie’s graveside service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Burlington, Kansas.
