Nipomo, California – Levi Lopez, a 37-year-old resident of Nipomo, tragically lost his life in a devastating motorcycle accident on Tuesday, September 25, 2024.
The accident occurred at around 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Hutton Road and Joshua Street.
Lopez was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound when a Nissan truck, driven by 36-year-old Genaro Cortez Beltran from Bakersfield, unexpectedly made a U-turn in front of him.
Despite wearing safety gear, Lopez was thrown from his bike upon impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to reports, the driver of the truck attempted to flee the area but was quickly apprehended by an off-duty California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer.
Beltran has since been taken into custody, though no drugs or alcohol are suspected to have played a role in the tragic incident.
Condolences have poured in on social media for Lopez.
Alex Casares shared, "Always had that smile on his face. Rest easy Levi."
A GoFundMe campaign organized by Gina Bumgardner has also been set up to support Lopez’s family during this difficult time.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
