Mt. Vernon, Indiana – The community of Mt. Vernon is mourning the loss of Marjorie “Beep” Loyce McGennis, a cherished local figure who passed away at the age of 83 on October 2, 2024.
Known for her involvement in the Extension Homemakers Club and her deep commitment to family and community, McGennis left behind a legacy of kindness, love, and dedication.
Born on January 22, 1941, in Posey County, Indiana, she was raised in a close-knit farming family and later worked as a custodian for the Metropolitan School District of Mt. Vernon.
Marjorie’s contributions extended beyond her professional life as she played an integral role in organizations such as the 4-H Council and Eastern Star, and was a devoted leader for the Victory Bees.
Her community involvement was surpassed only by her love for her family, particularly her pride in being a grandmother.
Condolences poured in from friends and family on social media, with Theresa Sumbles expressing, "My beautiful Nana went home to the Lord early this morning… I love you, Nana, till we meet again!"
Others, like Faith Leonberger, remembered her as "a sweet lady," and Patti Parker offered her "most sincere condolences" for the loss of someone so deeply loved.
Marjorie is survived by her family, who, along with the broader community of Mt. Vernon, are profoundly saddened by her passing.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
