Sydney, Australia – Mary Lee Thomas, a respected and cherished member of the Ireland Funds Australia, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, at the age of 85.
Mary Lee was born in Croghan, Co. Roscommon, and spent her life dedicated to the Irish community in Australia, earning numerous accolades for her outstanding contributions.
Her passing has left a deep void in the hearts of many who knew and admired her.
Mary Lee’s exceptional fundraising efforts, which raised over $1.7 million to establish the Chair of Irish Studies at the University of New South Wales, were just one example of her lifelong dedication.
In 1987, she was named the Irish Australian of the Year, and she later became a Lifetime Governor of the Ireland Funds in 2010.
Mary Lee’s memorial service will be held on October 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the House of Praise, located at 13900 Jr Drive, Walker, Louisiana.
Friends and family members expressed their sorrow on social media.
