Matthew Rhoden, Shreveport Police Officer, Tragically Killed in a Rollover Crash While on Duty

Shreveport, Louisiana – The Shreveport community is mourning the loss of Officer Matthew Rhoden, who was tragically killed in a rollover crash on Friday, September 27, 2024.

The 37-year-old officer was involved in a two-vehicle collision near West 70th Street and Pines Road at approximately 2:00 p.m. while serving the community.

A second officer involved in the crash was critically injured and is currently receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries.

The crash, which occurred close to the KOA Campground, left Rhoden dead at the scene despite immediate efforts to save him.

Authorities confirmed his identity through fingerprint analysis.

Shreveport Police Department Public Information Officer Angie Wilhite reported that twelve police cars, along with the Louisiana State Police and the Shreveport Fire Department, responded to the scene.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and an autopsy has been requested.

Many community members and officials have expressed their condolences.

Speaker Mike Johnson shared his thoughts on Facebook, stating, "Kelly and I are saddened to hear of the passing of Shreveport Police Officer Matthew Rhoden. We are offering our prayers to his family, friends, and the entire Shreveport Police force as they mourn this tragic loss."

Others in the community also offered prayers and support, with Patty Hilliard sending "prayers to his family and friends," and Linda Miller remarking, "So sad to lose anyone but someone who is out there to protect others is doubly sad. Condolences to his family and friends."

Officer Matthew Rhoden’s death has left a deep void in the Shreveport Police Department and the local community as they remember his service and dedication.
