West Babylon, New York – Early Saturday morning, a devastating car accident claimed the lives of two individuals, including 33-year-old Michael Desmond from Lindenhurst. The crash, which occurred at the intersection of Great East Neck Road and Railroad Avenue, left four others seriously injured.
According to Suffolk County police, the accident took place shortly after 1 a.m. when Desmond, driving a 2017 Kia sedan eastbound on Railroad Avenue, failed to stop at a red light. His vehicle collided with a 2025 Kia Seltos that was heading south on Great East Neck Road.
Michael Desmond was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Riley Goot, an 18-year-old passenger in the Kia Seltos from Babylon, was critically injured in the crash and later passed away at Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip.
The driver of the Seltos, 17-year-old Bella Trezza, and two other passengers, 18-year-old Austin Trezza and 18-year-old Jack Murphy, also from Babylon, sustained serious injuries and were transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital for treatment.
A fourth passenger, 16-year-old Anthony Pagliuca from West Babylon, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he is being treated for serious injuries.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and have asked anyone with information to contact the Suffolk County Police First Squad at 631-854-8152.
