Mike Violano, Beloved West Haven Coach and Community Leader, Passes Away at 68

West Haven, Connecticut – The local community is mourning the loss of Mike Violano, a cherished coach and longtime supporter of youth sports, who passed away on October 21, 2024, at the age of 68.

Known affectionately as "Vio," Mike Violano was a pivotal figure in West Haven’s sports scene, coaching and mentoring athletes in soccer, hockey, baseball, and softball for many years.

His passing has left a significant void in the lives of those he inspired.

Violano’s contributions extended beyond coaching, as he was also a successful businessman and a key supporter of various youth teams throughout West Haven and neighboring towns.

He was especially known for his leadership and dedication to the Notre Dame High School hockey program, where he served as head coach from 1988 to 1997, leading the team to four state championships.

Notre Dame High School expressed their grief, noting, “Coach Violano’s impact on our students and the local community was immeasurable.”

Family members, including his wife Cheryl, sister Jackie Violano Morrell, and brother-in-law Joe Morrell, are receiving condolences from a large network of friends, colleagues, and athletes.

As tributes pour in, Wayne Clark, a former player, remembered him as “a great guy, coach, and businessman,” who will be missed by all.

Coach Violano’s legacy of dedication and community involvement will continue to inspire future generations.
