Rockford, Illinois – Octavio Tequan Smith, a 26-year-old man, tragically lost his life in a shooting that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 13, 2024, in downtown Rockford.
The incident took place near the intersection of South Main and Race streets, a busy area close to Davis Park, a popular gathering spot.
Smith was found by Rockford Police at approximately 3 a.m., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite emergency efforts, he was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Rockford Police Department has launched a full investigation into the incident, treating the case with urgency as they pursue several leads.
Authorities believe the shooting may have been targeted, but no suspects have been arrested as of yet.
Chief of Police Carl Newman urged the public to come forward with any information, especially from those who may have been near the scene between 2 and 3:30 a.m.
