Jon H. Svendsen, an Olympic Hall of Famer and beloved husband, passed away peacefully this morning after a courageous battle with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), a rare and aggressive form of dementia. Known for his larger-than-life personality and extraordinary athletic achievements, Jon was a proud representative of the United States on the global stage and a cherished member of his community.
Jon’s athletic prowess was unmatched, earning him a place in the Hall of Fame and a reputation as a gifted Olympian. Beyond his career, he embraced his Norwegian and Viking heritage with great enthusiasm, and his love for life was evident in his many passions. He cherished travel, frequently visiting Cabo, Tahoe, and the Pacifico, and had an infectious excitement for the Christmas season.
Judi Scanlon Svendsen, Jon’s wife, shared on Facebook, “Heaven has gained an Olympic angel this morning as my husband Jon passed away peacefully after battling FTD, a rarer and faster-acting dementia. He was a larger-than-life personality. He loved EVERYTHING Christmas, traveling, Cabo, Tahoe & Pacifico. He was so proud of his Norwegian & Viking heritage.” She added, “He will be missed, and we are already doing Jonisms.”

Rick Robbins commented, “I am so very sorry,” while Cindy Burgess added, “Thinking of you!” Lisa Berry wrote, “I am so sorry, Judi!!!
