Barnatra, Ballina – Peggy Doherty (née Mills) of Gorthmelia Mills, Barnatra, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
Surrounded by her loving family, Peggy departed at the age of 86.
Her passing has left a deep void in the hearts of her family and the community.
Predeceased by her husband Tony and daughter Breege McDonnell, Peggy was a cherished mother to her son James and daughters Maureen McAndrew and Michelle Doherty.
She was also a beloved grandmother to her many grandchildren, including Anthony James, Catriona, Maureen, Michael, Eamon, PJ, and Linda, and a doting great-grandmother to her great-grandchildren Liam, Daniel, Harry, Farrah, Oisín, Finn, and Éadagh.
Peggy’s kindness and gentle soul will be deeply missed by her sister Sally Meade in New York, as well as by her nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors, and friends.
Her remains will repose at her residence on Saturday, September 28, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Inver on Sunday, September 29, at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial in Pullathomas Cemetery.
Family flowers only, with donations, if desired, to Mayo Roscommon Hospice/Palliative Care.
The community has been expressing their condolences on social media.
Michelle Doherty shared, "RIP Nanny, gonna miss you so much."
Other family and friends also shared their sympathies, with Kathleen Moran commenting, “Michelle Doherty, you looked after your nanny so well.”
