Vermont – The Saint Michael’s College (SMC) community is mourning the sudden loss of Phoenix Cassetta, the Vice President of Community Governance (CG) and a Resident Assistant (RA) at Cashman Hall.
Phoenix passed away on October 15, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, kindness, and dedication.
The entire SMC campus has been deeply affected by Phoenix’s passing, and events have been organized to provide support and reflection for the grieving community.
A gathering for support was scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Center for Women and Gender (Alliot 206), followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. in the chapel.
Additionally, a reflection space in Cashman Hall, where Phoenix lived and worked, will be open immediately after the service.
Further gatherings will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in Cashman Hall for students and faculty to offer condolences to Phoenix’s family and share stories to honor their life.
The news of Phoenix’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief, with many in the community expressing their sorrow.

Phoenix’s contributions to the SMC community, both as a leader in student governance and as an RA, will be remembered for years to come.
