Newark, Delaware – Prabhjit Klair, a 72-year-old resident of Newark, was tragically killed in a pedestrian accident on the evening of Friday, October 4, 2024.
Klair had been standing on the southbound shoulder of Corner Ketch Road near Karrington Drive when the accident occurred around 6:50 p.m.
He attempted to cross the road but fell into the southbound traffic lane, where he was struck by an approaching SUV.
Delaware State Police confirmed that Klair was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man from Wilmington, was not injured in the collision.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, with pedestrian safety remaining a significant concern in the area.
Local residents have expressed their grief and frustration over the accident.
Facebook user Stephanie Gentile commented, "All these DUI crashes, but yet there’s a liquor store, beer garden, distillery, winery, brewery or another eatery with a liquor license popping up all the time. ENOUGH W/THE ALCOHOL SATURATING THIS SMALL STATE."
Another user, Deb Lee Sage, added, "These signs won’t mean a thing to those crazy out of control drivers, unfortunately. But hopefully will make everyone more aware."
As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of Prabhjit Klair, a valued member of the Newark neighborhood.
