It is with deep sadness that the family and friends of Randy Small announce his passing on October 17, 2024.
Randy, a talented and versatile musician, was known for his extraordinary skills, particularly as a saxophonist, but also for his ability to master various other instruments such as the banjo, violin, clarinet, and concertina.
He was a proud graduate of Fort Hunt High School, Class of 1968, and a key member of the Uptown Rhythm Kings, where his saxophone performances earned him admiration from peers and audiences alike.
Randy’s remarkable musical abilities left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered, with one of his bandmates stating, “Randy was among the best sax players I’ve ever or ever will work with.”
His musical influence extended far beyond his band, touching the lives of countless fans and fellow musicians.
Randy is survived by his sister, Betsy Small, who now mourns the loss of her brother alongside his many loved ones.
Plans for a celebration of Randy’s life will be announced in the near future to honor his incredible legacy.
He will be deeply missed, but his music and spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
