Marblehead, MA – Kenneth “Ken” Finkelstein, a respected resident of Marblehead and a dedicated environmental scientist, tragically passed away on September 14, 2024, at the age of 62.
Ken was a proud graduate of Stony Brook University and earned a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina, followed by a Ph.D. in Coastal Geology from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science at William and Mary. His nearly 40-year career with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) marked him as a significant figure in environmental science.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Alkon, and children, Erica Panacopoulos and Seth Finkelstein, along with grandchildren Finn and Xander. A private service will take place at Sharon Memorial Park, with a memorial observance planned at Lisa’s home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. The family requests donations in Ken’s memory to the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.
Ken’s impact on both his family and the environment will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
