Auckland, New Zealand – Rob Heath, a beloved life member of the Royal Akarana Yacht Club (RAYC), has passed away, leaving the sailing community in mourning.
Rob, known for his dedication to the club and his passion for Flying 15 sailing, made a lasting impact on everyone who crossed his path.
His death was announced on October 16, 2024, by the RAYC, where Rob had been an integral part of the team for many years.
Rob’s involvement in the club began before the 2005 Flying 15 World Championship, where he sailed aboard Different Priorities.
After the championship, he transitioned into volunteering, becoming an invaluable member of the RAYC team.
Rob spent countless days at sea, setting marks, rescuing boats, and sharing stories with his fellow sailors.
Former commodore Sally Garrett expressed her deep sadness, saying, “Rob Heath was a dedicated Flying 15 sailor, an extraordinary volunteer, and a passionate dog lover.”
Club members and friends flooded social media with heartfelt tributes, including Catherine Woodley, who said, “Rob was a true gentleman and gave so freely of his time to volunteer.”
Nathan Bonney added, “Rob was always ready for a chat and welcoming to new members, a deserving life member and friend to many.”
Rob Heath’s dedication, warmth, and spirit will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the RAYC community.
