Ruth Lena Freedman, 101, Passes Away Peacefully at Home, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Love and Wisdom

Ruth Lena Freedman, aged 101, passed away peacefully at her home on September 21, 2024. Known for her sharp memory and vibrant spirit, Ruth was beloved by her family and friends. She was the daughter of the late Abraham and Sarah Feinstein and was predeceased by her husband, Phil Freedman. Ruth leaves behind a devoted family, including her daughter Bess Horn and son-in-law Jeff, and grandchildren Rachel McEachern (Ryan) and Phil Horn (Ariana). She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Carter McEachern and Julian Horn.

A graduate of Dorchester High School and Burdett College, Ruth was a life member of Hadassah and an accomplished violinist. She was often affectionately referred to as “Mrs. Google” for her ability to recall interesting facts even in her later years. Ruth was known for her love of gardening, her sense of humor, and her immense kindness.

Funeral services will be held at Linas Hatzedak Beth Israel Cemetery in Everett, MA, on Tuesday, September 24, at 1:00 PM. Shiva will take place at the home of Bess Horn in Hamden, CT, on Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

Condolences poured in from friends and family on social media. “Such a long and wonderful life for such a special, wonderful woman,” wrote Stacie Adler. “She will be dearly missed but our memories of her will be a comfort.”

Ruth Freedman’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
