Sawmills, North Carolina – Steve Duncan, a beloved figure in the Sawmills community and former Fire Chief of Sawmills Volunteer Fire and Rescue, has passed away at the age of 71.
His passing, announced on October 17, 2024, marks the end of a remarkable life dedicated to community service.
Steve Duncan, who joined the fire department in 1973, served for over five decades and was currently a member of the board of directors.
He was known for his leadership, dedication, and compassionate spirit, qualities that earned him respect and admiration from his peers and the entire community.
Sawmills Volunteer Fire and Rescue shared the sad news, stating, “Steve has been a staple within our organization and the Sawmills community and will be greatly missed by all.”
