Steve Gerber, Longtime Volunteer of Marine Military Academy, Passes Away in Harlingen, Texas, After 28 Years of Service

Harlingen, Texas – Steve Gerber, a dedicated and beloved volunteer at the Marine Military Academy (MMA), passed away on October 16, 2024, due to natural causes.

His passing marks the end of an extraordinary life spent serving the academy and its cadets for nearly three decades.

Mr. Gerber’s contributions to the academy were numerous, including his roles as Scout Master, Assistant Scout Master, and Club Leader.

He began volunteering in 1996 or 1997, according to those who fondly remember him as a mentor and role model.

His unwavering dedication had a profound impact on the cadets and staff, leaving a legacy of leadership and service.

The Marine Military Academy shared the news of his passing on Facebook, stating, “It is with great sadness we share the news of the passing of Mr. Steve Gerber, beloved Academy volunteer.”

Many who knew him expressed their sorrow and condolences, with Roel H. Rodriguez commenting, “Sad to hear of Steve’s passing! Wonderful person! He will be missed!”

Greg White, who remembered Gerber’s early days as a Scoutmaster, remarked, “He was a great Scoutmaster and mentor to us cadets and helped us tremendously.”

A memorial service in honor of Steve Gerber will be held on November 16, 2024, at the Marine Military Academy, where the community will gather to pay tribute to his remarkable life and service.

Mr. Gerber will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and tireless dedication to enriching the lives of the academy’s cadets.
